Most people complain of having wrinkles on their face. But do you know these folds or creases can appear on neck as well? Yes, many people have excess skin on their neck which can manifest itself in the form of double chin or ugly lines that run horizontally from one side of your neck to the other as a result of build-up of fat or loosening of skin on the neck. Besides, the skin on the neck is more susceptible to signs of ageing as it’s thinner than the skin on your face.
As such, it deserves to be treated with just as much care. Whether you’re concerned with preventing neck wrinkles from forming, or you’re looking to treat existing neck wrinkles, there are steps you can take restore the youthful appearance of your neck. Here are some neck wrinkle prevention and treatment options.
1. MOISTURIZE YOUR NECK
Preventing neck wrinkles follows much the same routine as preventing face wrinkles. A daily moisturizer works to keep your skin hydrated so the collagen and elastin can function to keep your skin taut and plump.
When you’re finished applying a moisturizer to your face, continue applying that same moisturizer to the skin on your neck. It’s best to use an oil-free formula so you don’t clog your pores. This can result in other problems like acne.
2. APPLY AN ANTI-AGING SERUM
Apply the same anti-aging creams and serums you use on your face to your neck. Products that contain wrinkle-reducing retinoids, including prescription or prescription-strength versions, are safe to use on your neck and just as effective at preventing and treating the signs of age.
3.ADJUST YOUR DIET
Make sure you’re getting all of the nutrients you need by reviewing your diet. You need plenty of vitamin C, E and A to maintain smooth and wrinkle-free skin. To boost your intake of these vitamins, eat citrus fruits, low-fat milk, carrots and dark green vegetables. A multivitamin might also be a good idea. Drink plenty of water, too, as proper hydration keeps your skin supple.
4. DRINK WATER
The water you consume every day keeps the skin of your neck supple and healthy and helps prevent neck wrinkles. Drink at least 8 cups of water a day to ensure that your body is hydrated.
If you find that difficult, start by drinking 2 cups of water first thing in the morning when you get out of bed. Then drink another 4-6 cups throughout the morning and afternoon. Try to refrain from drinking close to bedtime so you can sleep through the night.
5. WEAR SUNSCREEN
Protect that neck from the sun’s harmful rays and take your face sunscreen down to your neck. Remember, it should be at least SPF 30 and you should apply it every single day. If you’re in the sun for a long time, wear a wide-brimmed hat to shade it.
6. EXERCISE YOUR NECK
Exercise your face and neck each day. This will tighten the musculature of your neck and pull in sagging skin a bit. Try sitting and lifting your head up toward the ceiling. While in this position, pucker your lips up like you’re trying to kiss the sky. For an added workout, stick your tongue out and try to touch your chin with it. After holding for several seconds, you should feel the tension in your neck.
